Mindfulness refers to the form of meditation wherein a person is urged to focus on his own current state. Mindfulness is also essential for poker players because it allows an individual to be calm and elated. Below is an exercise that would help an individual develop mindfulness that poker players would definitely want to employ.
1. Determine your most comfortable posture in a place where distraction would not be a factor. Often times, people doing this exercise sit comfortably in a chair with their feet flat on the floor.
2. Now, try to close your eyes while thinking that you are sitting at the bottom part of a pool of water. Think of a feeling and consider this as a bubble that is slowly rising and floating away from your position, and will gradually disappear. Don’t think of what is inside the bubble. You just have to observe it. You might see several bubbles coming, just watch them as they passes by your eyes in your imagination.
3. If you do want to imagine yourself in a pool of water, you may try imagining that you are sitting on the bank of a river. Now, imagine a leaf falling near the stream. Observe the leaf just like the instruction on bubbles that I mentioned previously.
Relaxing music in the background would make this meditation exercise even more interesting.
Poker players may find this helpful since mindfulness is essential in Playing Poker. You may consider this as another technique that you use over your opponent since meditation gives you the chance of thinking with a clear mind. You might be surprised to win big pots after trying exercises such as these on mindfulness.
