The main reason why someone will lose a Sit and Go is because they have played too many starting hands. The players in Sit and Go’s are LOOSE. So remember, if you play a lot of hands against loose players, you will always catch bad beats. So the key is not to just play a lot hands, and only play monster hands. The right style to adopt, we will call, “Tight-Aggressive Squared.”
Tight-aggressive squared means to play very tight with your hand selection, and be extremely aggressive with a good hand. The advantage about Sit and Go’s is that you will almost always get action with your monster hands.
Your mentality in a Sit and Go should be “Go for the Money”. You might approach them like a business venture. This will help you to become a more patient player. You want to be an overwhelming favorite for all of your all-in-hands, and you can do that only by playing your monster hands. The key is tight-aggressive squared.
Also, be sure to play the third or first, but not the second. Once you’ve made it in the money in the top three, you’ve accomplished your main goal. Now your goal should be getting first place. This is because it pays considerably more than second or third.
Lastly, don’t bluff. When you’re at a low-stakes Sit and Go match, bluffing should not be an option until there are only a few players left at the table. Ask yourself, what is the point in bluffing to bad players? This principle is true for all types of Holdem poker.
